We were expecting it, we can already visit A Perfect Monster, the online portfolio (although some galleries are already under construction) of the illustrator John Dyer Baizley. His work is well known, so Baizley is the artist behind the artworks for several metal bands records and merchandise. Some of the bands best known for which Baizley has worked are Kylesa, Black Tusk or Darkest Hour. It is not surprising if we consider that Baizley is also guitarist and vocalist in Baroness, the sludge metal from Savannah (Georgia) that in recent years is enjoying a major recognition from audiences and critics. In fact, we can guess part of the reason that explains the delay of his official portfolio in the last Baroness’ world tours. The truth is that Baizley is as good drawing as playing his guitar. His illustrations recreate an oniric universe (or rather psychedelic universe), aesthetically very close to Alphonse Mucha, where the color and the attention to details are the rule imposed by an strict sense for horror vacui. A world of illustrations inhabited by amazons, animals and skulls which consolidate Baizley as the creator of some of the best album covers in recent years.
